Contemporary on the Cliff

Updated: Aug 5, 2019

This contemporary home is one of the most unique in Southern Colorado and is precariously perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Colorado front range and large bodies of water. C&O was honored to be chosen as the window and door contractor to help make this dream become a reality! The customer had very specific requests and we had to find creative solutions to meet this customer's expectations. Let us show you some of the unique features of this home and how it all came together.

We partnered with Andersen Windows to provide all the windows and patio doors with a dark bronze interior and exterior color to frame out the amazing views and provide the bold contemporary look.

The large patio door featured in the Great Room is an Andersen E-Series aluminum clad four-panel bi-parting door and is 15'0" wide and 9'6" tall. Large glass on this wall opens up to a breath-taking view with water below and mountains in the background. The large opening in the center provides a true indoor/outdoor living space which connects the great room with the exterior covered patio. A single 3'0" x 8'0" out-swing door in the kitchen provides quick in and out access for the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area. Stacked above the door is the Andersen 100 Series Fibrex windows further creating this dramatic wall of glass.

This Andersen E-Series door is a four-wide, two-high factory mulled configuration with a double 6'0" out-swing door. This door was installed with 2" structural LVL vertical mullions, gusset plates at each mull point, and we applied masonry straps every 6" to provide a Design Pressure 59 rating to withstand large wind loads that this home may encounter given it's position on the edge of a cliff. This customer can sleep sound at night knowing that this door is rock solid!

The interior side of this door features an Insolroll motorized black-out shade that stretches form wall-to-wall and concealed inside of a pocket in the ceiling to provide the ultimate light and privacy control for the Master Bedroom.

The fiberglass front door was manufactured by GlassCraft Door Company and was stained to compliment the CHI Garage Doors and the floating staircase on the interior. The door is integrated with five Andersen 100 Series Windows and uses Andersen's Fibrex Exterior Trim System on the exterior to give the appearance that the windows and doors are all one unit.

The interior doors were custom designed from scratch and manufactured by Millennium Doors. These 1-3/4" solid MDF Ovation doors were designed and revised several times by the owner until the doors were perfect for manufacturing. All the closet doors feature mirrors that are built into the door on the inside.

Although we are very proud of our windows and doors in this project, there are many other cool features to check out as well. Take a look below at more pictures from this contemporary home!
